Hebrews 13
Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it. And do not forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. May He equip you with all you need for doing His will. May He produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to Him. May God’s grace be with you all.
This chapter in The Bible encourages us to practice hospitality. Not realizing that we are welcoming divine angels into our lives. Offer a blessing to those who are in need of a blessing. While at the same time you are a blessing to God. Our goal is to treat everyone with love, kindness and hospitality.
Matthew 25
That Christ identified with people in need. He said when He was hungry you gave Him food. When He was thirsty you gave Him something to drink. When He was sick you visited Him. When He was a stranger you welcomed Him. When He needed clothes you gave Him clothing. The central message is that acts of kindness and compassion toward those in need are treated by Jesus as acts done toward Him. Everyone has value. And we are reminded that even strangers might be messengers from God. All people deserve to be treated with love and respect regardless of background or status.
John 13
Very interesting that one of Jesus final message to the disciples focused on love, humility, faithfulness and the servant as leader. Greatness in God's kingdom is shown through humble service, not status or power. He commands us to love one another as He loves us. He clearly states, "you must love one another." Our mission is to serve others humbly and love one another sacrificially as He has shown us to do. It is about Christ-like love expressed through humble service.
Give because He gives to you.
Help because He helps you.
Love because He loves you.
